How to Use an Anita Goodesign Digital Gift Card

Hey everyone and welcome to this week’s blog feature on how to use a digital gift card! My name is Drea Goodine and I am the Manager of the Creative Team at Anita Goodesign. I love traveling across the country to teach and learn from our customers!

What’s more fun than shopping with a gift card? It doesn’t hurt your pockets a bit, and it’s a great way to get some things you love. A common question we get from our customers is: “I have a gift card, but now what?” This blog post will go step-by-step through shopping with a gift card on our website, www.anitagoodesign.com, and will have you ready to shop!

How to Use Your Digital Gift Card: Step 1

Check your email! You should get an email that looks something like this once your gift card is created. If you don’t see the email, be sure to check your spam/junk folders just in case it got filtered in there.

Using Your Digital Gift Card: Step 2

Make a note of the gift card amount and the code, which you will need later to redeem. Go to our website, www.anitagoodesign.com and make sure you sign in as a customer. If you don’t yet have an account, click Register instead and follow the steps to create one. Make sure you use the same email where you received the gift card.

Step 3

Start shopping! Add any items you like to your virtual shopping cart, and when you’re finished click on the shopping cart icon shown here.

Step 4

Before you check out, be sure to enter your gift card code (the one you wrote down in step 2) into the box highlighted here. Once it’s typed in, hit ‘Apply’ and the balance on the gift card will come off of the total in your cart. If you still owe money, you can then check out as normal using another payment method.

LOST YOUR GIFT CARD CODE? DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH IS LEFT? Don’t panic, we know things happen sometimes, and have now added an easy feature to help you see exactly what you have remaining. To see your gift card balance at any time, go to the Customer Center tab on our website. Make sure you’re signed in! From there, you will see the My Gift Cards tab.

How to Organize Your Embroidery Files Collection

Hey everyone and welcome to this week’s blog feature. My name is Drea Goodine and I am the manager of the Creative Team at Anita Goodesign. I love to travel and host Anita’s University events, as well as create fun projects both at work and at home.

Today’s blog is all about keeping your embroidery files organized. Continue reading to learn how to best organize your embroidery files collection!

embroidery files

Does your file collection look like this? Duplicates of things? Struggling to locate what you want to stitch? Well you are not alone – we’re here to help!

One of the top questions we receive from customer is how we suggest keeping embroidery files organized. Whether you have transferred design files from a disc or downloaded the collection, our files are super easy to access and use. Sometimes sorting through them on your computer is the real challenge; especially if you’re like me and save them in different places depending on your mood at the moment.

JOIN ALL ACCESS TODAY!

Here at Anita Goodesign we have quite a large amount of files, since we keep a copy of every collection created. The easiest way we have found to keep track of those files is by creating a folder system on the computer.

Of course, everyone’s preferences are different, but hopefully one of these strategies will inspire you to organize your collection and discover some new-again treasures.

NOTE: Even though it may seem easy at the time, we do not suggest renaming files that you have downloaded- this can become confusing later. Our tutorials and machine steps are labeled with the file name we created and if you rename a file you may have a hard time finding the corresponding machine steps we have written to help create your design. Instead, try utilizing a folder system in one of the methods explained below.

theme, embroidery collection

Embroidery Files by Theme

Organizing by theme is a great way to keep things on topic – maybe you have some baby designs in your collection and want to easily find them on your computer or storage device. Try creating a folder and labeling it “Baby Designs,” then you store each collection within the master folder. If you already have the collections on your computer, just make a new folder with your desired label, and drag the previously saved collections into the new folder.

embroidery collection type, files

Collection Type

Perhaps you prefer to keep things organized by collection type – this allows for all the Mix & Match collections, Anita’s Express, et cetera, to be in one place. For this method, simply create a folder for each product type (Premium Plus, Premium, Special Edition, Full, Mini/Project, Anita’s Express, Online Design and so on!) then save collection files into their respective folders.

technique folders

 Technique

A third way to sort your embroidery files is to create folders for techniques in your collection. Consider making folders such as: Quilting, Cutwork, Embroidery-Only, Appliqué, and the like to make browsing easier.

You can always mix and match between these options above – maybe once you have a folder for Baby collections, within that you can further sort to have “Quilting” and “Embroidery Only” – this produces an even more detailed system for those who like to be super organized.

Whatever method you choose, don’t forget that you only have to save the files with machine formats that you will use. At Anita Goodesign, every collection includes all file formats. For those of us who have more than one machine brand, that makes life simpler; but if you know you only have certain brands, there is no need to keep all the extras and clutter your computer. If you get a new machine in the future that uses a different format, you can always download that content from your library on our website. And as always, if you need any help, just reach out to us – we’re only a click or a call away!

Custom Creations: A Quick Guide on How to Create Custom Embroidery Designs on a Home Machine

Hey everyone and welcome to this week’s blog feature! Before I teach you how to create custom embroidery designs on a home machine, I want to introduce myself. My name is Melissa and I am a part of the Creative Team at Anita Goodesign. When I am not traveling the country to teach Anita’s University courses, a majority of my time at work is spent helping craft the tutorials and fun content found in each month’s All Access. Now, I’m here to share more insider tips and tricks to making your embroidery projects entirely your own!

DISCLAIMER: This blog post has been written to specifically demonstrate the merging or changing of designs in a Brother or BabyLock brand of home embroidery machines. In order to customize or edit on a different machine make or model, use these steps as a guide and reference your machine’s owners manual for locating the on-screen editing features.

You’re in your sewing space, crafting up a storm and looking for the perfect finishing touch for your latest project to gift to a friend. What about creating custom embroidery designs? Personalization is the perfect opportunity to turn your standard embroidery design into something more unique, whether it be for yourself or a loved one. Finding the perfect design to customize can be difficult. Maybe you spotted a design from last month you love and want to add a small change, but you’re in the dark about digitizing. With this simple design hack, you’ll be on your way to creating custom embroidery designs in no time, no digitizing software needed!

JOIN ALL ACCESS TODAY!

We wanted to give you the skill set to turn any of your embroidery designs into custom creations by walking you through the easy process of editing and adding to an existing design. For some, this is as easy as using a Design Center or other similar, built-in program, but for others without specialty software or the ability to digitize, the features of most home embroidery machines will still allow you to customize your creation to some extent.

For our example, we wanted to craft a gift tag using a previous Anita collection, “Tag, You’re It!” This project collection features a series of 12 different gift tag pairings that can be tied onto a present. But what if none of those design options feel personal or appropriate? That’s where customizing your design comes in! Through a simple series of quick in-machine edits, you’ll be able to skip portions of the design you do not want, and can add in other design elements and even text to your existing design. The process is fairly simple once you learn how, so let’s get started!

Step 1

To start, pull up the design in your machine that you are wanting to edit and stitch out. For the purpose of this blog post, we are going to be altering one of the tag designs from Tag, You’re It, specifically design TIY5 that says “YOU DID IT!” but note that you can follow the same process with any design!

If your machine offers a home screen selection for Embroidery Edit mode to select this feature before pulling up your design. If there is no home screen Edit mode for loading designs, then simply load the file as normal to pull it up on screen and edit.

embroidery machine designs

Step 2

On the preview screen of your design, you will see the ability to “EDIT” near the top right, as well as “ADD” towards the bottom left. We are wanting to create a gift tag for a friend that features their name rather than the expression digitized onto the tag. To do this, we will be selecting the “ADD” feature in the lower corner, which will bump you back to the machine’s main screen pull up a design to add.

It is important to note that you can add text to your design, but without embroidery digitizing software or a Design Center feature, you will not be able to delete portions of the design. Instead, we are going to focus on how to SKIP the undesired steps and incorporating your desired element instead!

Step 3

embroidery designs

From the main screen, locate the design you are wanting to add. Since these tags are fairly small in scale, you may not be able to add any main embroidery designs unless it measure smaller than the tag itself! Instead, we are going to click on the built-in fonts feature for our machine. The font you choose is entirely up to you! Choose a font you want to type your message in, then use the on-screen feature to type in the name or message.

For ours, we are going to add the name “ANITA” to make a custom gift tag! Type in the name or phrase you’re adding, being mindful if you need to break text into two lines to fit within the design shape. Once you’ve typed in your text, you will select “SET” to drop the new word onto your design. Don’t worry about scale or orientation yet, we’ll get to that next.

Step 4

embroidery machine

The first thing you’ll notice is that the original wording on the tag design is still there, and that’s okay! The fun of learning how to add in your own phrase also means you’ll be learning how to SKIP over the undesired portion of text. If you need to rotate your text sideways or alter it in any way, do so on this preview screen where the “EDIT” options are available (circled in pink).

The default color on your screen for added-in text is usually black, but just know you can stitch it out in any color you want! Adjust the position and size of your addition as needed, then apply your changes with “OK” and choose “EMBROIDERY” in order to set your custom design and begin. TIP: If your savvy with your machine’s features and know how to alter on-screen colors for the design steps, you can choose to make any undesired steps display as white on screen so it won’t be quite as distracting to look at as a whole!

Step 5

Once you have finished customizing the tag and you’ve continued on to the EMBROIDERY screen, the design is set and you are ready to begin the design.

embroidery designs

Step 6

Stitch out your tag following the design instructions included with the tutorial, paying extra attention to each step change before continuing on. You will want to STOP before you reach the tag’s originally included text, which in this tag is right after the tacking stitch for the base fabric. In order to prevent stitching the text we do not want, navigate to the on-screen button that allows you to advance steps or stitch counts (depending on your machine make/model, there may only be a symbol to represent this, usually with a +/-).

embroidery machine

Select the option to then pull up the steps navigation. You will want to skip forward past the step—or steps—involving the original text. Depending your design choice, this could be in more than one embroidery step, so be sure to SKIP all the undesired elements until you reach the start of your newly added text.

embroidery machine designs

Step 7

The phrase or name you added in will get automatically dropped at the end of the design steps sequence, meaning it will be the last element in your design file to stitch out. Specifically with freestanding designs like this tag, there will be steps to attach a back fabric as well as finishing satin stitches.

If you are adding elements to a freestanding design like this one, you will have to do a bit of step skipping in order to run the newly added word before the back fabric and finishing steps. Don’t be afraid of moving backwards or forwards in your design, just use the smaller on-screen preview box to see exactly what part is about to stitch out to help you navigate to the back tacking step.

embroidery design file

Step 8

Once your newly added element or text has been stitched out onto the design, use the “+/-” feature again to navigate the design steps back to any embroidery or finishing steps that would have followed the original text on the tag, allowing the design to get its back fabric and finishing stitches. You can then continue to run your design until it is fully finished.

SHOP ANITA GOODESIGN COLLECTIONS

In the case of “Tag, You’re It,” there is an additional, smaller tag that compliments the main design which will get completed within the same design file and hooping following the completion of the first tag. Keep in mind when skipping to the end for your text that you will have to go back before the smaller tag in order to get back to the back and finishing steps for therein tag. Once it’s finished running, you can remove your new personalized tag and add it to a gift for that special someone. There you have it! You’ve learned how to create your very own custom embroidery design.

Hunting for a summer themed collection, but not sure where to start? Just click and scroll in the “Category” box and click “summer,” then any collection that has anything to do with summer will appear on your screen! The same steps apply to the rest of the drop down boxes.

To filter the collections by technique, just click the “Techniques” box, then scroll until you find the technique that strikes your fancy! You can filter by any technique that we’ve ever covered in our designs. If you’re a quilter through and through, then just click quilting to see every quilting collection we’ve ever released. Or try your luck with a technique that you’ve never attempted before! There might be a technique you’ve never even heard of before. Test out the fun confetti technique and have a party while you stitch! With so many designs to hunt for, you’ll definitely find something that speaks to you and your creativity.

The Product Line box is best to shop through collections that are grouped together by the product lines they were released in. Tap the “Anita’s Playhouse Collection” to see all of the Playhouse designs that are the best match if you’re hunting for something to make for your little ones! Or maybe you want to take a look at a few of our large releases? You can filter the collections by Special Edition, Premium, or Premium Plus too! Isn’t learning how to shop the website fun?

One very useful filter is the Hoop size box. At University events, I’m often asked about what designs use certain hoop sizes. Depending on what type of embroidery machine you have, you may be limited to certain hoop sizes, and finding the perfect designs for that hoop size might seem like a challenge. If you use the Hoop Size filter in the shop, the task of finding the exact size you need won’t seem so daunting anymore! Just click the size the correlates to your hoop and start browsing!

Say I want to find an autumn themed quilting collection, that features designs that will fit my 6×10 hoop. Can it be done? Of course it can! Just click all of the criteria in the filters, such as the  “Autumn” category, the “Quilting” technique, and the “C (6×10)” hoop size, and you’ve got a list of 23 collections to sift through that suit your needs!

And the shopping fun doesn’t stop there! One feature on our website that some might not know about is our search bar! The search bar is the best tool to find a collection that you are thinking of as quick as possible. You can find the search bar in two different places on our website. The first place you’ll find it is on the top black navigation bar, on the far right, shown here:

You can see the white bar say “Search” in gray text, and features a small magnifying glass. You can find this bar in the same place on every page of the website, no matter where you are. If I remember seeing a collection that I really liked, but can’t remember what it’s name was exactly, this tool is perfect.

For example, I remember seeing a design that was full of brightly colored flowers, and had flowers in the name. To use the search bar, just type in the word that comes to mind when you are hunting specific designs. Before you hit enter, take a look at the list that drops down after you’ve typed your keyword. You might find the collection you’re hunting for right there! (In case you were wondering, the collection I was looking out for was Tropical Flowers!)

If you don’t see your collection, you can hit enter on your keyboard, and you’ll be taken to the shop page that shows every collection that has your keyword in the title. From there, you can use those wonderful filters to find exactly what you’re looking for.

Seeing the screens above, can you guess where the other search bar is located? Yep, it’s right there with the Shop page filters! This search bar works very similarly to the one at the top of the page, it just won’t have a drop down list of options.

See, wasn’t learning how to shop the website as easy as can be? Now that you know the in’s and out’s of shopping on our website, you’ll be a seasoned pro at finding any of our collections at the drop of a hat!
