The Cowboy Hat
Some hats you wear. This one you earn.
A perfectly broken-in straw cowboy hat that's seen a few too many county fairgrounds. Getting straw to read as straw in thread was the whole challenge — look close at that crown and brim and you'll see the stitches wrap and coil the way real woven straw does. That's not texture dropped on a shape. That is the shape, built out of stitch direction.
Then the details: tooled leather band, worn brass buckle, a "Howdy" card tucked in the ribbon with a horseshoe and gold sheriff's star, and a red-and-gold feather daring you to say something. Across the brim in gold script — Ain't My First Rodeo.
Denim jacket, tote, work shirt, guest room pillow, a duffel headed to a barrel race. It lands everywhere.

Buckle up buttercup
Fair warning: you're about to want this on everything.
This one started as a phrase I couldn't get out of my head — that perfect bit of Western sass that's half encouragement, half hold on tight, honey. So I went straight for the good stuff: fat, groovy, hand-lettered type packed shoulder to shoulder like a vintage rodeo poster, burnt orange against big sky blue, with a deep red UP right in the middle holding it all together.
Then the gold. Every letter gets a metallic gold outline that lifts it clean off the background — that's the shine, and it's what turns a good phrase into something that belongs on a trophy belt buckle. Gold rosettes tucked around the border, white daisies in two corners for sweetness, and a lasso curling off the tail of "Buttercup" like it's roping the word right off the edge.
That scalloped, wavy border is my favorite part. It gives the whole thing the shape of an old enamel sign or a carnival badge — no hard corners, all personality.
Denim jacket back, hat patch, tote, pillow, a barrel racer's gear bag, the pocket of a work shirt. It reads loud from across the arena and holds up close.
Playful, with a little bite — exactly the kind of thing you hand somebody right before they do something brave.
